What is Our “Why”?


From 2018 to present, more than 2000 Charleston students have dropped out of high school. According to the US Career Institute, South Carolina has the 15th lowest graduation rate among high school students.

CPA seeks to change these statistics. 

Mission Statement

The mission of Coastal Preparatory Academy is to provide the social, emotional, and academic support needed to re-engage, support, and empower at-risk students with their education and provide them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to achieve a South Carolina high school diploma and succeed in their post graduation endeavors.

Vision Statement

The vision of CPA is to provide individualized academic programs to at-risk students within a supportive environment that fosters student empowerment and provides students with the educational tools to pursue their academic, personal, and professional goals.

When will CPA open?

CPA is currently in the process of applying to become a school with the South Carolina Department of Education and the South Carolina Public Charter School District. Should CPA be approved, CPA plans to open for the 2026-2027 School Year!

When can I apply?

Once CPA has completed its application process and has been approved to open, CPA will open its application portal. We will post frequent updates to our website and social media pages!

Who is eligible to apply to CPA?

CPA will serve students in grades 9-12 up to the age of 21. Though CPA will generally serve students in Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, and Dorchester Counties, students throughout the state of SC are welcome to apply.

Is CPA a virtual school?

CPA will be a hybrid school meaning that it will have both virtual and in-person components! Students and families are welcome to choose whichever learning method works best for them. Students will be able to learn in-person, virtually, or any combination of the two!

Is there tuition?

NO! CPA will be a TUITION-FREE public charter high school. There will be no cost to families!

Will CPA provide transportation?

CPA is planning to provide limited transportation to students subject to availability, need, and location. Students and families should not rely on school-provided transportation to get to and from campus. School-provided transportation is not guaranteed to all students.
